I took these four pictures from the same spot and only varied the exposure. The sun was bright and directly overhead, so the "normal" exposure (first picture) was washed out. The darker photos have more detail on the side of the statue and on the brick wall. Turning these into an HDR might let you display all the detail at once, though the moving water will make it trickier. I tried, but the HDR software for linux is baffling and none of the results were worth posting.
